Yeh! I finished the program, I will miss it I have learned soooo much, it's been a wonderful journey. There were a few tools I had been meaning to look into but kept putting it off but this program has made me learn about them and so many more I had not even heard of! It has been heaps of fun and so very interesting. I really hope I get to use some of it at my workplace (we have IT blocks). I agree with Jalen The examples of social networking in action shown in this module can be starting points for our library. We can set up something similar to the Animanga Club for our graphic novels, or children's section, or teen area or ... Perhaps include our library in Facebook?

Thanks to all at the State Library for the program.... It's been fantastic!

I've never used Google doc before ...I wish I had known of this, Its saves so much time. The creators have thought of everything. This week I am working on a power point with another staff member I will attempt to share the presentation/slideshows with her using slideshare. I'm so excited.

Mashups were such a good fun and I really enjoyed designing ideas provided by the Big Huge Labs that portrait me just as I am...adorable and lovable!! See for your self. My owner says that she can see quite a lot possibilities for mashups in the library, especially for local studies and promotional ventures.

I remember an email about this some time ago promoting "slamming the boards" I didn't get involved but I think some of the Reference staff did. I'ts a bit like Just ask.

I enjoyed the podcast session as much as my owner. The Orange County Library service has a great one titled Techno pop, what a great way to promote SRC prpgram. We also found a promo for a new book release and this library also "most recent video" question which gives customers a voice that you can reply via Youtube, what a great way to connect with the community. My owner says there are lots of avenues to promote, storytime, book reviews, poetry readings? author talks, displays, special events, oral and library newscasts ... these are just some of the programs, projects and activities that offer possabilities for audi and video podcasting. Very exciting

LibraryThing is a great way to connect with like minded readers

I've set up my del.icio.us account.
It was very easy setting up the account. I love the way that I can share with everyone some of the really great websites and blogs out there!

I was initially concerned about security and privacy. It is a bit 'big brother' that everyone can see what pages you like and visit. However, I figured that if you don't want people knowing what you're visiting, don't post them to del.icio.us!

I was inspired by the Sutherland Libraries Tag Cloud. It was great to see some family history and local studies sites recommended, as well as readers advisory. Many (if not all) public libraries in NSW have web pages with a separate 'links' or 'electronic resources' page arranged by subject headings, so why not have Tag Clouds that the current generation of library users are so familiar with!

Well this youtube thingy is really cool... now I'm a star on the net and my owner is really clever. We will have to check out google video a bit more but this looks great also. Lots of possibilities for my owner to use at work like oral histories, our recent renovations would have been great as the library was closed for 3 months to record the changes as they developed. The guides to services and virtual tours would be helpful. My owner doesn't know about using it for staff orientations it seems a bit impersonal.
bye for now

Well I watched the video clip on Wiki's with my owner and it was really great. My owner says she can see herself using it to co-ordinate joint activities across branch libraries. I must admit, we do alot of back and forth email its time consuming. My owner loves the idea of using a wiki to co-ordinate, ask for evaluations for in house training stc.

My owner tells me that she is undecided about RSS at this stage. I'm not real sure if she will use this but I'll keep encouraging her and kissing her because she needs to keep up the the technology and the youth of today. At the moment she subscribes to sites and receive email alerts and is happy with this arrangement. My mum says that that the reader would be useful if you subscribed to a great many feeds and needed to manage them. ( I've noticed that she has a RSS reed for a site on the Russian Blue cat - that's me)
For a library, mum says RSS would be really beneficial. I agree, what a great way to promote library events, promotions etc or to notify customers of changes to membership or borrowing to our customers especially to those who don't visit often.

Hi my name is Roxy and my owner is keen to learn about Web 2.0 by creating my blogspot. The whole idea of social networking is an area unfamiliar to my owner and she wants to explore its possibilities for use by her library. We both believe in lifelong learning. In particular, I like to learn new ways to manipulate my owner, whereas she tends to concentrate on learning new technologies. Stay tuned for more about our journey...
